Gareth Sorsby, Joint CEO

Gareth has been at YMCA Exeter since 2010, after exchanging the a career in the hotel business for work in the third sector. In 2017 he was promoted to the role of Joint CEO and is passionate about social justice and community development in and around Exeter. Gareth belongs to Grace Church, Exeter.

Si Johns, Joint CEO

Si joined YMCA Exeter in 2002, having served as Housing Manager and as Deputy CEO before becoming Joint CEO with Gareth. Si is a Full Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing and has a long history of work with young people before the YMCA, including working for Devon Social Services and the Diocese of Exeter. Si is passionate that YMCA Exeter does all in it’s power to support, advocate for and empower young people. Si is a member of Exeter Vineyard Church and feels strongly that YMCA Exeter’s work with young people needs to look to support them holistically addressing needs in Body, Mind and Spirit.

Paul Reisbach, Chair of Trustees

Paul Reisbach (LinkedIn) is our Chair of Trustees and was appointed in September 2018. Paul is the Director for Metanoia Projects and works primarily in the third sector helping groups and organisations understand how they can collaborate without compromising their own goals and objectives. 

Exeter Live Better

Emma Osmundsen, Trustee

Emma White (LinkedIn) is has served on our Board since 2014. She is the Managing Director of Exeter Live Better and champions sustainable energy efficient development. Emma is also a Trustee of the YMCA England and Wales National Board and a Churchwarden at St David’s Church. Emma is married to Alan and lives locally, in their spare time they enjoy many outdoor activities.

Ian Awcock, Trustee

Ian Awcock has served on our Board of Trustees for over ten years, and is currently chairing our Development Committee. A Civil Engineer by trade, Ian is a Director at Awcock Ward Partnership enjoys the Devonian life with his family and is a member of the congregation at Belmont Chapel.

Roger Carne, Trustee

Roger Carne (LinkedInhas been a Trustee of YMCA Exeter since 1992, having been both Treasurer and Chair during the period. He is an Elder at his local church in Silverton as well as being the Senior Partner at Bush & Co Chartered Accountants in the centre of Exeter. Roger is an avid Plymouth Argyle fan and a proud grandfather of three.

Jonathan Snicker, Trustee

Jonathan Snicker (LinkedInjoined as a Trustee in 2017. He has worked as a consultant in the not for profit sector for several years; prior to that he was Fellow and Development Director at St John’s College, Oxford. He began his career as a lecturer in Politics and is now the Head of Philanthropy at the University of Exeter. Jonathan attends St David’s Church in Exeter and is married to Katharine and they have one son.

Will McDermid, Treasurer

Will McDermid (LinkedIn) joined the board in 2017 having recently moved back to the Southwest. As a qualified accountant Will now works as a Manager at Bush & Co Chartered Accountants where he specialises in charities. He is married to Helen-Frances, and they have one son with another on the way. Will is a member of Belmont Chapel.
