Meet Magnus, a volunteer and blacksmithing mentor
Once homeless, this is where Magnus is today:Â
“My family used to be my support and when I became homeless, it was really isolating. Moving into YMCA Exeter housing was the support I needed. They gave me the gift of family and a community to connect with.  Â
Iâm now a student studying archaeology at the University of Exeter but I decided to continue supporting YMCA Exeter as a volunteer. They helped me when I was in a desperate situation and Iâm so glad I can now give back to them. Â
Blacksmithing is an incredible way to work through emotions. Sometimes you have to hammer so hard and other times the metal needs a delicate hand. I like helping other young people manage their mental health through this creative process.”  Â
Once homeless, Magnus now volunteers at YMCA Exeter in his spare time, using his skills to teach other young people how to learn blacksmithing and metalwork.
