The EMOTE Programme
Education, Meaningful Occupation, Training and Employment — a dedicated strand of support for every young person living with YMCA Exeter.

What is EMOTE?
The EMOTE Programme is a targeted initiative designed to inspire and raise aspirations among the young people who live with us. Its purpose is to create opportunities that many of them may not have had access to while living in unstable or challenging circumstances.
Through personalised support planning, opportunity creation and skill set development, we help young people build the resilience, motivation and self-confidence to overcome barriers to achievement. Our aim is for them to thrive in reaching their potential by finding their value in work and learning.
Much of what EMOTE offers is made possible by the organisations we work with. Local partners provide bespoke learning courses, tutoring, volunteering opportunities and employability experiences, giving young people access to teaching, training and real workplaces that we could not offer on our own. Alongside this we help young people into mainstream education, so that whatever a young person is ready for, there is a route open to them.

Our aim is for young people to thrive in reaching their potential by finding their value in work and learning.
We will help our young people develop their own EMOTE Pathways, engaging with the programme to identify their aspirations, goals and ambitions and matching them to their desired EMOTE Pathways –
Meaningful Occupation – Developing their interests & hobbies, learning something new or joining a club of like-minded people, finding value in themselves and other people through doing something they love.
Education & Training – Helping them find a formal learning opportunity, a study course or academic/vocational training programme. Identifying and achieving the qualifications needed for their dream job.
Employment – Achieving a work placement or job and the skills needed to find & maintain their role or helping develop their knowledge to start their own enterprise or business.

Inspire – Visit our young people to share your business journey and the opportunities in your sector.
Experience – Provide work experience placements to give young people a real taste of the working world.
Develop Talent – Partner with us to create supported work experience programmes, with on-hand EMOTE specialists to guide and mentor.
We’ll promote your business through our social media, printed materials, website, events, and the national YMCA network. You will be celebrated as a leader in community engagement and social impact.
