The young people at Honiton Community College Forest School will be learning to make benches and stools in the woods over the next six months, thanks to a fabulous chairmaking course our forest school leaders have been on.
“Ali (YMCA Exeter’s freelance forest school leader) and I had the amazing opportunity to join six other wood workers from across the south west for a two-day intensive chair making course at Woodlab Devon,” explains Sam Thomas, YMCA Exeter Community Projects Manager.
“The course was expertly run by Alex from Bill’s Yard. We covered the fundamentals of chair design, tools, techniques and assembly. It was quite a challenge and over the two days we all worked together to help each other shape up a chair worth being proud of!
“The course gave both Ali and I a good all round education in chairmaking and we look forward to putting all that we have learnt into play with the design and build of forest school stools, firepit benches and chairs for the forest school sites we work at!”
We can’t wait to see the finished products!!
Thanks to Wood Lab Studios and Alex from Bills Yard for all the tuition.
