If you’d asked to meet with YMCA Exeter’s facilities team 13 years ago, you’d have been greeted by a team of two. Today, that team has grown to an epic eight, with half of them being residents or ex-residents.
So let’s dive in and meet this growing team who keep the houses spotless, turn rooms around in record time for new residents moving in and ensure maintenance is in tip-top condition.
Newbies: John and Aaron
Recently joining the team, John and Aaron are residents in YMCA Exeter’s Stage 4 housing. You may recognise John from the London Marathon last year. John is responsible for cleaning Stage 4 housing, Sidwell Studios and Aaron is taking on the Stage 2 housing in Newcourt. We’re delighted to have them join the team.
Ex-residents: Max and Damien
Once residents, both Max and Damien have moved through our stages of housing and now have homes of their own. Originally an IT volunteer, Damien brings his IT skills to assist the whole organisation as IT Support Technician.
Max began working as a cleaner at YMCA Exeter, but is now on a maintenance apprenticeship under the skilful training of Tim, fitting kitchens, plastering and ensuring all the building’s alarms are tested. We are so thankful for them both.
Volunteer: Ian
Ian has faithfully volunteered at YMCA Exeter for over eight years, starting on one day a week and continuing to increase his hours up to four days. We’re so thankful for Ian’s loyalty and hard work as he keeps YMCA Exeter looking spotless.
Sarah, Tim and Steve
Sarah originally started at YMCA Exeter as a cleaner over 13 years ago. Today, she heads up the team of cleaners as facilities coordinator and we couldn’t do without her incredible knowledge, caring nature and commitment to detail.
Tim is our property maintenance worker and I’d challenge you to find a problem he can’t solve. From creating a huge round table to fit the boardroom to gently and calmly passing on his knowledge and skills to the team around him, Tim is a treasure to the team.
Keeping everything on track and ensuring everything is in order is our facilities manager, Steve. Originally overseeing all the housing in Exeter, Steve’s role has grown considerably as we’ve opened homes in Paignton and Plymouth. You never know where you’ll find Steve, but you can guarantee he’ll be solving some tricky problem.
This week, please take a moment to pray for our facilities team, who work behind the scenes to do incredibly essential work.
