On bank holiday Monday, eight-year-old Phoebe, Eleni, Jubilee and seven-year-old Amelie set off in double kayaks, surrounded by a safety crew, to cover just under a mile along the Exeter canal. Finishing at Double Locks, the exuberant crew celebrated raising over £1,00 to support young people at risk of homelessness in Exeter.
The adventurous quartet raised over £1,000 for YMCA Exeter in 2023 after participating in the mile-long race at Exeter’s Great West Run. Having caught the fundraising bug, the girls spent four months planning a new challenge – the kayaking fundraiser of the year!
“We wanted to help lots of homeless people get a home.” says eight-year-old Phoebe Wallington. “It’s really important that you have a home and doing a fundraiser is a good way to help.”
