Non-Executive Directors

In this voluntary role, you will join our Board of Non-Executive Directors and play a key part in helping guide the strategic direction and governance of YMCA Exeter.

We are seeking individuals with a heart for Christian mission, sound judgement, and professional insight. As a Trustee, you will use your knowledge, experience and wisdom to support the Board in ensuring that YMCA Exeter remains well-governed, resilient and sustainable, so that our Christian mission continues to be realised through our daily work with young people and within the wider community.

Trustees work collaboratively to provide oversight, challenge and encouragement to the organisation’s leadership, helping to shape strategy and ensure that YMCA Exeter continues to deliver meaningful and measurable impact for the young people we serve.

It would be particularly valuable if applicants have experience or insight in one or more of the following areas:

  • Data, Research and Impact Measurement – experience of outcomes monitoring, evaluation, or reviewing performance data to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Church Leadership – experience of leadership within a Church context.
  • Commercial or Social Enterprise Development – experience of business growth, social enterprise, income diversification, or developing sustainable trading activity.
  • Lived Experience of Homelessness – personal insight that can bring valuable perspective and authenticity to board discussions and strategic planning.
  • Leadership Coaching and Change Management – experience supporting leadership development, organisational change, or helping teams navigate periods of transformation.

These areas of expertise will help strengthen the Board’s ability to provide effective oversight, strategic leadership and long-term sustainability for YMCA Exeter and the communities we serve.

This role involves attending evening Board meetings, usually two per quarter throughout the calendar year, alongside occasional strategy or committee meetings. The position is voluntary and will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
