Please don’t ignore it if there is a problem with paying your rent.

Please get in touch and discuss whats happening with your support worker (if you’re in stage 1 or 2), or your tenancy worker (if you’re in Exwick, or Sidwell Studios).

If rent has been missed, we will ask you to fill out a rent repayment agreement. This ensures that everyone knows what rent you expect to pay.

YMCA Exeter operates a charitable donation Rent Bursary scheme that helps young people who are currently living in our Newcourt accommodation to be able to enter into full time employment.

This is because as your income from your employment increases, the amount you receive from Housing Benefit decreases.

Please speak with your support worker to find out more about this, and if this applies to you.

We have several rent calculators to help you estimate how changes to your income will impact your housing benefit and your top-up.

Find it by clicking the button below.

Full Circle Moments at the Forge! 🔨 Today we w Full Circle Moments at the Forge! 🔨

Today we welcomed back the lovely Malin, our Ten:10 Volunteer from 2022/23, to our new Forge space!

Two years on, Malin has returned to visit YMCA Exeter, a great reminder that the community we build here lasts far beyond a placement or programme!

Magnus, a former resident turned volunteer, taught Malin some basic metalworking skills in our YMCA Exeter garden - a space for residents to get creative in nature.

Magnus will soon be leading blacksmithing sessions on our Forging Futures course - a mental health and blacksmithing workshop looking at anger management. He’ll also be teaching during our weekly ‘open forge’ sessions, where residents can unwind, learn new skills, and reconnect with nature.

We love that our community looks like this - people returning, giving back, and continuing the cycle of support and transformation at the heart of YMCA Exeter!

These superstar fundraisers raised £700 for YMCA These superstar fundraisers raised £700 for YMCA Exeter last week!

The girls put on a summer event with four stalls; a cake stall, a jewellery stall, toy tombola and chocolate tombola. They've raised over £700, although there are still some donations coming in on the Just Giving page!

Thank you so much girls - for your amazing hard work, planning and creativity - your support will help so many young people find hope and belonging in Devon. 🫶

🌱 Grow for Good – Helping young people plant 🌱 Grow for Good – Helping young people plant the seeds of change 🌻

Over 6 weeks, our Wellbeing Practitioner Georgia led her first ever group programme – 'Grow for Good' – a creative, CBT-based wellbeing course blending therapeutic techniques with gardening!

Six incredible young people showed up each week, growing in confidence, resilience, and connection.

💬 “It’s all about giving young people a space just to find a starting point for change... equipping them with the tools to do it for themselves in future." – Georgia, Wellbeing Practitioner

✨ Highlights from the course:
🌿 Created a Tree of Hopes & Fears to set goals
🧠 Learned to challenge negative thoughts through cognitive restructuring
🌼 Explored behavioural activation and made small changes to support mental wellbeing
🌻 Took home hand-painted plant pots, flowers, and created a 'Gratitude Garden'
💪 Built stronger support networks through 'companion planting' – because growth doesn’t happen alone
🎯 Practised problem-solving for real-life challenges like anxiety and social worries

📉 5 out of 6 participants saw a reduction in anxiety scores by the end of the course
💚 One young person – facing tough circumstances – still came every week
🌟 Every single one of them stepped out of their comfort zone and grew 🌱

A big shoutout to Georgia for her creativity, courage, and compassion in delivering this meaningful work – and to every young person who took part and grew for good 💚
Do you – or a young person you know – need som Do you – or a young person you know – need someone to talk to?

Our Children’s Wellbeing Service provides low-intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for young people aged 5–18 experiencing low mood, anxiety or behavioural challenges.

Our practitioners are currently accepting self-referrals as well as referrals from parents and professionals. We'd love to hear from you!

Please share with anybody you know who might benefit from this kind of support.
