Friday 30 April 2021 would have been Captain Sir Tom Moore’s 101st birthday and the one year anniversary of the extraordinary celebrations following the now famous 100 laps of his garden that raised an incredible £38.9 million for the NHS.

Tom’s simple message of hope – “Tomorrow will be a good day” – resonated around the globe during some of our darkest days.

Captain Sir Tom’s family are inviting the world to celebrate his life with an event that everyone can get involved in to celebrate his generosity of spirit, the hope and joy he brought to millions, and his sense of fun.

That event is the Captain Tom 100 and from Friday 30 April to Monday 3 May, we at YMCA Exeter are asking everyone to take part in the Captain Tom 100 by doing an activity of your choice.

At YMCA Exeter we’ve chosen to do litter picks and pick up at least 100 pieces of litter each because we deeply care about the communities in which we live. However you can of course choose any challenge for your Captain Tom 100 activity – walking 100 steps or running 100 metres, scoring 100 goals, baking 100 cakes, climbing 100 stairs, hopping 100 laps of the garden, building 100 sandcastles, writing a 100-word poem, flipping 100 pancakes – anything at all, inside or outside. It’s your chance to do it your way!

It’s simple, to take part in our Captain Tom 100 challenge and get sponsored by your friends and family you need to:

  1. Visit Captain Tom’s 100 website
  2. Select ‘fundraise’ for YMCA Exeter
  3. Connect to your Justgiving account or create a new account
  4. Share your fundraising page with friends, family and on social media
  5. All the money raised through Justgiving will then be sent straight to YMCA Exeter and included in the Captain Tom 100 fundraising amount
  6. If you join us by doing a sponsored litter pick activity then we suggest you pop into the Keep Britain Tidy website site for tips and safety suggestions before setting off on your adventure

If you have any questions or fundraising ideas message us on social media or email events@ymcaexeter.org.uk.
