homeless devon help support young people

YMCA Exeter are inviting daredevils from the local community to take part in their Christmas fundraising challenge – a freefall jump off Haven Banks Tower on Exeter Quay!

On Saturday 8th December local people from Exeter, dressed in Santa suits, will jump off the 22 metre high tower to raise funds and awareness for youth homelessness this Christmas.

Harnessed to the Haven Banks Powerfan, each intrepid Santa will be tasked with raising £100 each ahead of their descent to the ground. These essential funds will help to support young people transitioning from vulnerable accommodation into their new home at YMCA Exeter. Every year the charity provides Supported Accommodation for over 100 young people who are experiencing, or are at risk of, homelessness within the city.

Bethan Spencer, Fundraising Manager at YMCA Exeter, says: ‘The freefall provides a fantastic opportunity for local people to take part in raising money to fight youth homelessness over Christmas. It’s a challenging time for many youngsters who are homeless and vulnerable and our aim is to help young local people overcome obstacles that are preventing them from living a full life. We hope the people of Exeter can support us and help achieve our goal.’

Do you think you could do it?

YMCA Exeter are looking for local volunteers to take on the challenge, and have a goal of raising £4,000. Volunteers will receive a Santa suit for their abseil as well as a tempting range of hot drinks and mince pies to enjoy on the day.

The event will take place on Saturday 8th December from 10am – 2pm at Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre.
