The event was attended by regular donors and volunteers at YMCA Exeter who, during 2017/18, gave over £50,000 in donations and 8000 hours of volunteering service. Other guests included: John Laramy, Principal of Exeter College; Andrew Maynard and James Gaisford of Tuckers Hall (The Incorporate of Weavers, Fullers and Shearman); Rev. Tom Carson from Exeter School and representatives from the University of Exeter Students’ Guild.

Guests were treated to a traditional cream tea, served by YMCA residents, before listening to Bishop Robert speak about YMCA being a light in the city, where young people can experience true community and develop their potential.

Guests then heard from our Joint Chief Execs, Simon Johns and Gareth Sorsby about our plans for the coming few years, including the development of new affordable housing and a mental health service. On behalf of Tuckers Hall, Andrew Maynard then spoke about a new partnership between YMCA and the Tuckers Hall charity, before the YMCA music group performed songs from their EP album.

Bethan Spencer, Marketing Manager at YMCA Exeter says, “YMCA has been active in Exeter since 1846 and our passion as a Christian organisation is to support young people in the ways they most need it. Many thanks to everyone who attended the event. It was a lovely opportunity for us to showcase our work in the heart of our vibrant community.”
